ICYMI, a deepfake is where a person's likeness, typically in the form of photos, voice or videos, is replaced with someone else's likeness using artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques. While deepfakes can be used for entertainment and educational purposes, they raise significant ethical concerns due to their potential for misuse in spreading misinformation, creating fraudulent content, and violating privacy and consent. As deepfakes become more sophisticated, distinguishing them from real footage becomes increasingly challenging, highlighting the need for awareness and regulatory measures.
